Song for Chao Phraya is a 1990 Thai drama film directed by Chatrichalerm Yukol. It is a remake of the 1978 film of the same name. The film tells the story of Sang, a sand merchant who sells sand on the Chao Phraya River from Nakhon Sawan to Bangkok. When Sang's beautiful wife, Prang, leaves him to become a star in Bangkok, he spirals into failure and desperation. The film explores themes of love, betrayal, and the pursuit of dreams. Despite being submitted as the Thai entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 62nd Academy Awards, it was not accepted as a nominee.
