Songs to Make You Smile is a collection of five short romantic comedy stories written and illustrated by Natsuki Takaya, the author of Fruits Basket. The stories revolve around different characters and their experiences. In one story, a quiet and sullen vocalist named Atsushi Takahashi falls in love with shy Anzu Nakata after she defends him from bullies. Another story follows Chisato, who reflects on her father's absence during Christmas and discovers his hidden presents. The collection was positively received, although some reviewers found the artwork and emotions to be overdone. It was licensed for English translation and distribution in various countries.
