Assassination Classroom is a Japanese science fiction comedy manga series written and illustrated by Yusei Matsui. It follows the daily life of an extremely powerful octopus-like being working as a junior high homeroom teacher, and his students dedicated to the task of assassinating him to prevent Earth from being destroyed. The manga was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from July 2012 to March 2016, and the chapters were collected in twenty-one tankōbon volumes. The anime series, live-action film, and video games based on the series have also been released. Assassination Classroom has been positively received and has sold over 25 million copies. In 2023, the manga faced controversy and was removed from American school libraries due to its depiction of violence and sexually explicit imagery.
